As the Mobile Engineering Manager, you will be in charge of managing a team dedicated to delivering world-leading content to subscribers in the most delightful way possible. Our app is built with React Native, so we require someone with experience in running teams in a cross-platform environment.

The content journey team plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction and meeting the needs of our editorial team. You and your team will be responsible for building features that enhance the user experience and cater to our customers' and editorial team's requirements.

The position is based in our central Birmingham office, conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from New Street Station and a 1-minute walk from Snow Hill Station. We also provide flexible working arrangements, including the ability to work remotely when needed. Although our current situation requires remote work due to Covid-19, our plan is to transition back to spending more time in the office once it is safe to do so.

As the Mobile Engineering Manager, your accountabilities will include:

1. Establishing and advocating engineering best practices across the organization as a part of the product engineering leadership team, reporting to the Head of Software Engineering.

2. Collaborating with designers and product owners to create a seamless user experience.

3. Providing technical leadership within the team in coordination with product owners and architects.

4. Assisting in prioritizing the technical roadmap, with a focus on addressing technical debt and implementing improvements.

5. Working in a React Native environment while determining the appropriate balance between Native and Cross-platform experiences.

6. Leading the hiring, onboarding, and retention of diverse and talented software engineers, in collaboration with senior engineering management and the recruiting team.

7. Supporting and developing software engineers through regular 1:2:1 meetings, mentoring, and feedback.

8. Collaborating closely with the mobile engineering manager responsible for subscription and subscriber-related features in the app.
